Hello,
I have recently acquired a 1950 A7, purchased because it was essentially 'unmolested'. Working through the bike it all seems original. However, I was expecting a long stroke motor but checking it reveals it is the later shorter stroke. I understood the short stroke appeared in 1951. The bike was first registered in October so is it possible that they started fitting these engines in late 1950 machines?? Assuming that, would the short stroke engine have a bolt up gearbox as mine does?
Hope this understandable...
Thanks
The short stroke A7 first appeared in September 1950, the beginning of the 1951 season models.
Engine number would commence with prefix AA7.
The short stroke A7 Star Twin first appeared around March 1951, engine prefix AA7S.
Julian,
Everything you have said fits.
It would seem it is one of the first short stroke engines.
Thanks
