chalk and cheese, so many analogies to use.
one is twice the price of the other, both do the same job, did Ivan Maugers gold plated speedway bike go faster than a normal bike?
in my opinion,,, for the mileage I do the Hepolite is as good as an oem stripped, checked and rebuilt.
which is why I dont go SRM converions, I can get Morgo at trade prices for my customers if they want but most are on budgets.
the price charged is still recouping the cost of design and development but I doubt it will come down does your mileage justify extra costs, mine dosnt.

Hi,

If your pump is beyond fettling try to find a later BSA cast iron pump.  These are not common but cheaper than the new ones and as good once serviced.
Both suppliers of new ones say are 'tested' but I would check for bits of debris just in case.

Hi,
SRM is the better pump it has a higher delivery than the standard BSA pump, the tolerances are finer to reduce the chance of 'wet sumping', the parts are individually fitted and finally tested before dispatch to ensure a quality product.

The cost maybe a problem for some as previous posters have stated.

Best wishes

Hi Bess,

Very reassuring to know the pumps are individually tested.  I think if I was to invest in one I would probably get a new worm drive as well.  I think SRM supply a gasket and the necessary screws/studs in the price.

SRM think the same way you do, they supply the lot (when they are in stock):

Hi,

Definitely worthwhile if a few thousand has just been spent on a proper engine rebuild.

Here in the US there the Hepolite is only slightly less money than the SRM.
I went with the Hepolite and it is working fine in my Lightning.  It appears high quality and is made from iron while the SRM is aluminum.
I believe the Hepolite has the same added capacity as the SRM.

Thanks fellas
Food for thought, hepolite is the only one I can find at moment as srm's are sold out

My engine has the spigoted alloy pump. The gears all looked fine, so I bought a new drive spindle from SRM, when it arrived it was too tight in the pump. Called SRM who said they made them to max size tolerance so the pump body might need a little bit of reaming or easing with a flap wheel. So I think i now have a pretty good fit. Hope this helps.

When considering SRM or Hepolite bear in mind the relative rates of expansion of aluminium and iron; these parts are being fitted to a cast aluminium crankcase.

Hi,

The pumps fitted to the last A65s were made from cast iron and considered to be the best.
