Hi all, new member!
Currently have a C15F that I'm attempting to get out of boxes and back on the road.
Just looking ahead and planning some options and wanted to know about forks and oil tanks.
Does anyone have any experience with changing the forks for something a little more competent? From what I've read it's technically possible to put any on of you have access to a workshop. But are there any options that are a straight swap/minimal fuss? Or improvements that can be made to standard forks?
I'm also looking to change the oil tank for something a little less... bulbous?
I've seen C15 scramblers with what look like lower profile or central oil tanks but I don't know what the fitment would be like.
Any info and experience shared will be gratefully received!
Cheers!
Hi Dropout Boogie
I have a 1967 C15G fitted with B40 forks - direct replacement, one issue is the block to hold the brake back plate,
which is a little high for the C15 brake drum, but I welded a bigger block prior to having them powder coated.
Hope this helps.
Good luck!
Thanks for your response, Bryan.
That's really helpful, as trying to keep track of different part numbers that may or may not be compatible and the variations by year makes my head spin!
Are the B40 forks an improvement on the originals in your experience?
I'm going to try and salvage the forks I currently have, but if I'm to spend money I thought an upgrade would be a sensible move.
Hi Dropout Boogie
My C15G was fitted with the B40 forks when I bought it, it's been in bits ever since, but I think the B40 forks are much more substantial, as they were designed for the heavier model.
I think that they are an improvement, but I guess it's a personal choice.
Good luck.
Thanks again for replying, Bryan.
Having read a few different posts about fitting modern forks be machining custom yokes to fit them etc while I'm not overly committed to originality I'd rather avoid the rabbit hole of mixing metric and imperial. And it looks like there are lots of shared parts both the B40 and C15.
I'll add B40 forks to my ever expanding list of bits to look for.
Cheers!
Be prepared to do some work to fit B40 forks.
B40 forks not a straight swop you will need yokes to go with them as the shafts are larger diameter than the C15 standard items, the standard C15 front wheel has a smaller diameter spindle than the B40 and the C15 headlamp nacelle will not take B40 forks.
Thanks for the info, Julian.
Do you think it'd be more or less hassle to just change the entire front end? As I say, I'm hoping to try and salvage the forks I currently have, but it's good to know what I may be up against before I spend any pennies!
