Hi All,
Perhaps you may be able to help?
I bought the 1949 rigid B31 earlier this summer.
It ran well but leaked engine oil mainly i think due to a blocked breather.
I have pulled the engine out and have split the cases, mainly to inspect, clean up and then re seal the crankcase.
The crank, big end and main bearings look okay but the oil pump body has a few small flaky cracks.
I'm concerned it might fall apart so bought a new body from the BSA specialist suppliers in Netherlands as I couldn't find one here in UK!
All well cleaned out but the mechanism feels tight and has the odd 'catch' when rotating by hand.
In a previous post someone suggested lapping the end plates, but I'm not really certain whether this might help? Has anyone had a similar experience and discovered a solution?
Pete
I have worked on a couple of pumps, but not with a new body. I found following the instructions at the WM20 site a great help.

forgot to ask..who did you buy the pump body from? :)
Thank Peter, I'll check out your suggestion.
The pump body is CNC milled aluminium alloy from De Groot BSA motorcycle spares in Netherlands.
Expensive at 150euros! They also sell other difficult to find parts such as air release/ breather tube adapter and pushrod tube sleeve nut. I figure though that the oil pump is worth investing in. All the 4 cogs fit well but it tightens up on fitting the end caps. The drive end is Mazak and I suspect this is the issue as other end is pressed steel.
Best wishes
Pete
hi pete, i m not too familiar with the single oil pump but i ve seen thin paper used as a gasket on the body to add gear clearance on a10 oil pumps. you should find out out where its rubbing with engineer blue or send it back.
