Title: Air Filter
Post by: Mike Farmer on 07 Nov, 2020, 10:57
 :) :) :)

Hi

I've just put a new concentric on my A65. When I got it, it had a wrong size Monobloc with the round filter. The filter that was in the box-o-bits doesn't fit wrong size etc.

What would you recommend. Firstly If I dont put a filter on my motor is going to be sucking dirty air and secondly I'll probably end up having to rejet it. Thats a bit hit and miss. Might get it right first time-----might not.

What year?  Are you going to stay with Monoblocks?  I think the round filters are good and also correct.  Need the right size of course.

Hi Mike,
I like these, if they will fit your set up. Not standard but easily removable washable and I think look good on my Lightning.

Best wishes...

Hi Mike,
             Yes, they are from Amal.

Well made and threaded rather than rubber push fit type. I'm not sure if the Thunderbolt has enough room but certainly fits the Lightning. If you need dimensions let me know.

Best wishes...

I bought a short cone filter from Classic Bike Shop in Redditch. Unfortunately push fit plus jubilee clip but fits nicely.

H Guys. Thanks to you both.

I assume your Lightening is running perfectly. Did you need to make any changes to the jets.

Hi Mike,
Bike runs fine I am in the process of re-engineered it to look like a street scrambler but still have an engine vibration issue, when I have time I will have a go at balancing the crank in the engine rather than stripping again.

Bizarrely when I tried to buy the carbs from Amal they were out of stock. I phoned them for a solution and they sent me a pair with the wrong main jets fitted along with the 2 correct jets FOC. I forgot and fitted the carbs as they were. They are slightly rich so I left them with an intention to change them when the bike was run in, they are still there. The bike is fine, I cant remember what jets are in them and I cant find the correspondence relating to the carbs, sorry.

Best wishes...

Thanks for that. Just out of interest, what carbs are you running 928's or 930's .

Hi Mike,
They are 930's from 'Pack 117' spec of carbs here:

That jetting and general set up appears to be pretty much their standard supply. My 928 prem came jetted the same. Fortunately  had the correct jets to hand.

Take care

Hi,

I needed a new filter for my A65T.  Surrey Cycles have them and are reasonably priced.  I have opted for the gauze/mesh type as it can be washed.  The washable type is a few £s more but will last a lot longer than a paper one.
