Title: A65 rear brake shoes
Post by: DAVE BRADY on 18 Oct, 2020, 08:31
Good morning,

Has anyone tried floating rear shoes?  A65 rear are fixed but SRM are offering Ferodo lined floating shoes.  In theory an improvement but in practice are they?

Dave.

The 1962-65 full width rear had floating shoes but they dont interchange with the half width shoes use 1966-70.

Certainly the pivot pin is a different diameter.

I would advise checking that these floating shoes are suitable for your hub.

Hi Julian,

I see that SRM are offering both with Ferodo linings.  I wonder though, if it is worth the conversion.  The standard brake works well when set up right and I suppose it is possible to have a rear brake that is too good.

My A10 with full width rear has floating shoes which work OK. It also works OK with non floating hard to tell the difference.

I prefer to get the shoes relined by a specialist where you can specify the material and charactaristics, rather new shoes and linings where you get what you are given so to speak.

Hi,

Some suppliers say 'quality linings' but if they are so good why not say who makes them.  The SRM ones are in Ferodo boxes so the lining should be good and the fit also.
I will just get the non-floating or see if there is a brake specialist locally to reline the shoes I have.
