Mudguard protection.
« on: 04 October, 2020, 17:53:24 »
I have bought a pair of brand new chrome mudguards which were made to order. I am considering spraying the inside surface with stone guard or stone chip black paint. Any views on a better way, thank you.

Hi,

I have used black bitumen paint and I always coat the part of the mudguard that will not be seen, like under the seat, with Waxoyle under seal. The idea being that if you cannot clean it protect it, paying attention around bolts and grommets.

I used to use black bitumen but now use stonechip followed by a coat of waxoyl underseal. Because the stonechip can be penetrated by flying sharp stones, and the waxoyl stays relatively soft, the belt and braces approach is most effective. Careful masking along the mudguard edge before spraying will prevent you seeing the black, particularly with chrome mudguards.

Two coats of black hammerite applied by brush. As noted above carefully masked

Hi,
Grey stone chip with sound deadening properties. Grey on the chrome or stainless is less intrusive.
