Winter lay up.
« on: 01 September, 2020, 17:17:36 »
In weeks to come I am going to put one of my bikes in storage in a dry garage. I will take the battery off and put it in the airing cupboard. I will let the carb run dry. However shall I leave my rust free tank full or minimal. I will not really have access to the bike to work on as an elderly relative has let me use the garage Gratis. I am only storing it so I can restore another bike and need the room.

it is suggested the tank is either left full so that the ethanol in the petrol cant be affected  by the air, the other option being to empty it and either swill diesel around or a thin oil . the second option would obviously need the removal of the tank, best then to re fit after to avoid possible damage.

 :) :) :)

Drain the fuel system and fill ity with heating oil which is I believe Ethanol free. Yep you'll have a cleaning problem in the Spring. but your system won't degrade whilst out of use.

I wouldn't be putting the battery in the airing cupboard,  room temperature storage would be kinder.
