Open face lid with blue tooth...
« on: 25 March, 2020, 09:53:05 »
Is anyone aware of the availability of a open face helmet with built in blue tooth? I distinctly recollect reading about  a model such as this in one of the monthly bike mags, I cannot recall the retailer. I have (in common with many, I suspect) four such magazines delivered regularly and I don't keep them too long given their accumulative bulk which means I cannot retrieve the required information. I have spent quite some time wandering around various bike shows etc. without success, in fact I have been told by one salesman that bluetooth is not practical in a open face model because of wind noise. does anyone have an open face helmet with bluetooth? I do not really want a helmet and then add a bluetooth kit, I want a factory fitted model! Call me old fashioned!

Hi,

I think that it will be the microphone that is affected by wind noise rather the bluetooth as this can connect over distances of over as mile.
Schuberth do an open face that is compatible with their bluetooth system - expensive!

Dave.

Thank you Dave, I was aware that the the range of bluetooth reception was not the limiting factor (although astonished it was as far as a mile) and it was the wind noise over the mike that is problematical, but I knew there were manufacturers producing this kit - so many thanks, I am on the case... after all, at the speeds I normally travel at, wind noise is minimal.

This kit was on my shopping list - not a recommendation as such, just a suggestion.

I was mainly interested in it for the connection to the TomTom Rider - I dont do any mobile phone stuff. The missus wasnt keen though. She reckons we dont talk that much when we're in the same room never mind on a bike and couldntsee the point in blowing 300 quid to sit there enjoying the scenery in the same silence as before :) I tried the inbuilt radio tack with her but it still didnt wash. I'd picked this one out as I always ride with open face helmets now and have done for years. The reviews for this one are pretty good in that regard. I'll get around to trying one in Caberg eventually to see how the fit is with the earpieces.

Have finally acquired one, it is a Sena something or other (I have already lost the paperwork) and it achieves the initial criteria being extremely comfortable, I did about 100 miles yesterday with no problems. Second criteria will be clarity of audio which I will judge as soon as I have worked out how to set it up! It comes with 'simple' instructions but I am patently sub simple. I purchased it from a motorcycle clothing outlet in Boston (Lincs) which I was a little sceptical about because it was all arranged on the 'phone. I was concerned that the fit would be problematic due to the size of my head, which is very large judging by the difficulties I normally encounter buying anything to fit. The thing is, these guys will even pay the postage if you wish to return the goods for whatever reason, which is very helpful in instances such as this. All I've left to arrange now is a pair of compatible goggles.
