A65 1970 Lightning
« on: 08 April, 2020, 11:56:53 »
Hi Guys with plenty of time on my hands a have started to continue the rebuild, one question if someone can answer please
i have put my engine back in the frame after a complete engine rebuild with new pump etc, etc etc i have fitted a new remote oil filter, when i have filled the tank with oil, and started to crank the engine on the kick start, i cannot seem to get any oil out of any of the pipes, the pressure switch and releif valve have oil coming out, but cannot get any into the filter/cam pipe??? is this correct until the engine has fired up??

I always prime the filter cannister with oil after fitting otherwise you wait until enough oil from the sump has been pumped into the fiter to fill it.

Hi,
    As Julian, plus:

Put half a pint of oil in the crankcase via the timing plug hole or down the head into the cam follower casting. I had need to move air locks by pressurizing the oil tank by plugging over the tank breather and blowing into the oil tank filler hole forcing the oil air mixture through the pressure relief valve valve tapping (PRV removed of course).

Best wishes...

Hi,
Here is the oil pipe system little earlier than yours, but note the cross over:

Best wishes

I took the plugs out and with the help of a strong mate pushed it up and down the road in gear, got there in the end.
