It should be good for years, but it does settle out around the edges of the compartment if not enough grease was used.
You might want to check the chain tension occasionally though.
It is worth considering changing to a belt drive, which I did on my A10 many years ago.
http://dynamoregulators.com/drive-belt-kit.phpIf a chain breaks it can cause serious damage to the timing cases, and also it is quite difficult to remove either of the sprockets, and the setup can be noisy. Look at all the minor damage inside the compartment caused by incorrectly tensioned chains.
In this conversion the small pulley pulls off using a mag pinion extractor and the large one comes off with the assistance of timing cover screws in the threaded holes you see in it.
