A50CC info
« on: 11 June, 2019, 18:51:57 »
Much as I love my M21s and B40 I decided that I missed the A50 and A65 that I had to sell a while back so....
I've just bought an A50CC basket case which I hope will set everything right again :)

I must admit I don't know much about these but if what I've bought (yet to see it) is a true competition model then I may have to do some extra work to get it ready for road use - like a battery charging system or some other way of providing legal lighting.

I believe it has an energy transfer ignition system via alternator - rather than magneto - which I think is designed to be sufficient for sparks but not for lighting/battery charging.

I'll be picking it up in a week or so but if anyone can offer any insight to what I've gone and done that would be most welcome!

Frame: A50B 8751 Engine: A50B 643

Many thanks,
Bernie

as its basically a 500 twin , same motor as any other 500 or 650 A50 or A65 BSA casings should be big enough to take generator and any wiring loom should be adaptable, further checks on the internet or manuals should produce an ignition and lighting circuit. there should be a space for a battery as well.

Some further information on the A50CC.

If it still has the original stator there should be a lighting coil for direct lighting.

Thanks all - it will be interesting to see how it's fitted out when I get my paws on it.

BTW - 'Zestful' seems to have been the marketing word of choice around that time as my SS90 has a very similar description in the brochure!

Cheers,

Bear in mind, the way they got more 'power' from these models, was to fit lower gearbox sprockets. I wouldn't be surprised if its a 16 or 17 tooth which will make it fell like a rocket. Downside is it revving so hard at low speeds in top. Great when new but when 55 yrs old.......Mmmmmm???

Yup, I ended up with a 21 tooth on my last A65 as it just didn't feel right - so busy at only 50 in top - if I wanted that I'd buy a Jap classic instead! I may try the bike out with the configuration it comes with and straight through pipes but suspect it will have a larger sprocket and some mufflers on it fairly quickly if only to keep the neighbours happy!

Cheers,
