Kick start cotter pins

Does anyone know if a turned brass cotter pin will work on the kick start rather than a stainless one.

No, it will be too soft for that.

Stainless or plated steel is best. Tip regarding fitting, they go in thread pointing upwards. You'd be surprised how many put them in upside down. (I used to until Brian Pollitt put me right a few years ago).

one thing to remember about stainless steel parts is that the majority of stainless has a lower shear factor than its mild steel counterpart.

Yebbutt the end wont go rusty after you've bashed it with a hammer a couple of times to get it in  ;D
