Speedo and back wheel
« on: 13 June, 2019, 12:35:42 »
Hi all, I don't think my speedo is accurate my bike is I believe an imported 1966 A65L I am thinking that in the near future of getting it refurnished but want to know if the speedo is matched up to the back wheel a lot has happened from 1966. The speedo has printed on it SMITHS SSM 5001/03A 1600 MADE IN UK L      my back wheel is marked WM 2.19 JONES 67 6005 , thanks Roy

The Smiths catalogue shows the 1966 A65L supplied to UK and USA East Coast models as having  speedo SSM 5001/03A and rear wheel speedo gearbox BG5330/111 21:10 ratio.

The BSA catalogue shows the 1966 A65L supplied to UK and USA East Coast models were fitted with 19 inch rear wheel.

The first thing to check is the ratio of the speedo drive unit as for the UK 18" rear wheel its 1.25:1. Maybe someone has fitted one of these.
