B40 gearing
« on: 14 April, 2019, 18:09:32 »
Hi, Iíve a B40 in trials trim but Iíve not done a trial in several years so to get a bit of use out of the bike Iím looking to make it more road friendly, I like the trials look so Iíll fit a more comfy seat, fit some lights and some trail type tyres, but the first task will be to sort some road friendly gearing, Iíve looked through the forum but canít find anything definitive. Can anyone tell me what the ďstandardĒ sprocket sizes would have been, or what works well on the road.

Thanks

Standard gearbox sprocket is 19t and 46t for the wheel sprocket.

I think you will find the bike a bit more sluggish in road trim. I haven't ridden a trials version since the 1970's but seem to remember it being quite lively compared to my standard B40 I've just restored!

Cheers Adrian, Iíve just managed to find some old service sheers and they confirm 19/47.

Speaking about Speed and power is not something that comes up very often with a b40, just looking to use it for some light back lane plodding.
