1958 C15 factory colours
« on: 11 March, 2019, 14:44:18 »
Am stripping my C15 ready for respray. The panel behind the carb with the air filter hole, has been Blue, black and finally metallic almond green. RS classic bikes paints only come up with a maroony red for that year, so am a bit confused. Is originality a big thing or should I go with something different.

The 1959 season bikes, which were made from September 1958 were available in turquoise green and fuchsia red.

Catalogue pages below dated August 1958.

Your bike paint, it whatever colour you wish.

Is sapphire blue an original colour.
I think it really suits my 1965 C15

Tiger: I'g happily see a photo too, particularly if it's the original paint.

(I have a 1965 B40 that left the factory in Sapphire Blue, but was resprayed at some later point in what might be Sapphire Blue. Am curious to see any representative pictures of original Sapphire Blue painted bikes just to gauge how close mine may be.  I bought some paint from RS Bike Paint which was a richer blue than mine. I've been told on this forum that the colour control at BSA wasn't necessarily that close and batches varied. Plus I presume with time may fade anyway.  Anyway would be pleased to see apicture if this is possible)

My 1958 Star was originally green (turquoise green presumably?) according to Julian's dating certificate but was repainted red at some time in it's life.
I quite like the red so its going to stay that colour.
But is it the Fuchsia Red or just some random red chosen from a swatch by a PO?
