M20 for sale restoration
« on: 31 March, 2017, 16:04:56 »
Hello
can anyone advise me what is a BSA WD M20 1940 500cc single side valve worth ?
It is in pieces and the only things I am aware of that are missing, are the exhaust down pipe and the handlebars.

It appears to have been in sand colours.

I had it checked from manufacturer dating records and the frame and engine numbers were correct for the bike, not a collection of spares !

I am near Manchester in England UK.

Ideally i want to sell it as a job lot  as i do not want to spend the time splitting it up

any advice greatly appreciated

Hello
Sounds like a nice project for somebody!
Always difficult to put a value on something without seeing it, a lot will also depend on how far stripped down it is and other bits that turn out to be missing.. Are the engine and gearbox in bits? Presuming its on girders-are these in one piece? Also condition of individual parts will affect price..
If the dating and colours are correct then this would probably have been on service in North Africa around 1942?
How much are you looking to get for the bike? If you put an advert on here in the for sale section with plenty of pictures then I'm sure it would create much interest, otherwise take a chance and put it on ebay with an honest description, plenty of pictures and no reserve and it will definitely sell..
If I was close by then id definitely be having a look!
Cheers,
Rich

Hi Spudley, guess who.
Did you find the classified that Rich mentioned ?
Take some pics and post the details there with pictures.
If you're unsure how to do it, give me a shout and I'll run you through it.

Thanks for your help Rich.

Sam.

Hey Spudley, I guess I never told you of all the BSA's I had millions of years ago,  ;D ;D ;D ;D
The first one was a 650 Gold Flash followed by a 350 ZB31 Gold Star and then a 500 B33.
I'll see if I can post a pic of the ZB31, not my actual bike, mine was a few years older, these were all in the early 60s.
I'll catch you tomorrow mate.

Just to add to the pictures put up which I helped set out.
There are signs of sand coloured paint in places and not knowing anything about these bikes, I checked the bottom end and I was able to turn the crank shaft quite freely by hand.

As previously discussed stamped number sa 1879 near oil feed boss
also bore tag
crank case numbers are 66 1600 with matching half numbers 453 and 453 across front engine mounting lug
I assume put there by engine builder
I cannot find any other numbers anywhere
