Absolute Disaster !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
« on: 28 December, 2018, 20:15:27 »
Plunger B31......So...following a magneto re-furb I put it all back together and set about re-sting the ignition timing- I've found the easiest way of turning the engine over to find tdc and 11mm btdc is to stick a socket on the timing side mainshaft nut- so there we go ...tdc found...back a bit and slowly forward and 'splunk' the end of the shaft shears off !! "o deary deary me " quoth I.." thats a shame".....well words to that effect !   what an absolute *******...
Anybody got a mainshaft they don't need ? :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

It's better it happened on the bench than out on the road.
I have a B31 crankshaft in Bolton Lancs, where are you based?

Did you turn it over with the plug out?

If the nut/ shaft sheared that easily, better for it to happen on the bench than when riding the bike!

Thanks for the sympathy guys.  I guess it had been over-tightened at sometime and this just 'pushed it over the edge'

Could be interested in the bits Andy- I'm in North West Lincolnshire
