B25SS Blue 1971
« on: 09 December, 2018, 01:04:58 »
Hello
I am restoring a OIF B25SS 1971 which is Blue/Grey, I had one back in 71 and only recently discovered they are rare, perhaps just 140 in blue, rest in Red. Anyway, the strange thing is the frame number NE dates it as Nov or Dec 1970, yet it is a K reg FCG 672K March 72, I am wondering if this was in a batch of frames made premature to production proper Jan 71 and has got lost in the factory somehow, does anyone have any ideas on this please.
Cheers John

The blue ones were before early February 1971. Very very few B25SS were despatched in 1970, the main flown starting January February 1971. Very very few B25SS after April 1971, production switched to the B50 then.

NE decodes as October of the 1971 season - October 1970. The dating letters do not always match the dates the bikes were despatched from BSA.

Only a check in the despatch record would tell when your bike left the factory.

Also remember that in 1971 riders were more interested in Japanese bikes and your bike could have been waiting in a dealers showroom for a long time before being sold.

1971 model twins were still being sent from the factory during April 1972.

1972 model twins were still being sent from the factory in April 1973, 12 months after production ended.

Thanks for your reply, that would explain it, very possible the grey frame put buyers off. Anyway, I like them and  something different.
Best regards.
