Has any body got advice on carb for 1954 500 goldie, the carb on it is pretty worn and possibly going to put an Amal 930 on it instead.

Cheers  ;)

mine runs so well on this everything about it is perfect for this bike . Not sure on the 54 as mine is 56 , with a scrambles head , but it fires up first kick and runs beautifil . All new phil pearson internals could also be helping .

Lovely!

If only i had the budget, its actually my brothers bike and its going to be a long term project. Interestingly its a reimport and went to Hap Alzina in the US before coming back here. Its had some modifications for flat track racing we think.

cheers

The amount of time and effort I have put into second hand carbs over the years , not counting the cost , only to find that they never work good . Then I found out the price of a new amal monobloc I couldn't believe it . I think that monobloc , correct one for the 56 DB500 , cost £175 brand new .

It depends what you want from your carb.
If you want originality then its an Amal GP
If you want a carb that carburates cleanly at all throttle openings and engine speeds, will idle and will start easily due to a proper cold start system, then it has to be a Mikuni VM. The Amal GP will do none of the forementioned

BTW pushing a button down until petrol comes out all over the magneto is not a cold start system
