B40 fuel tank
« on: 09 July, 2018, 14:53:23 »
Hope this isn't a very silly question but is the B40 fuel tank the same as the C15?
Just starting my first restoration and struggling to find a B40 tank, however there seems to be more C15 ones about. They look very similar but part numbers are different which is holding me back from risking buying the C15 one.
Also I've seen some on Ebay that are made in India, has anyone any experience of these? Many thanks!  :)

I bought an Indian tank as a stand in till i get a original one rechromed and painted . The fact is it is that good I havent gone any further with the refurbish .  All I would suggest is you buy one from someone with good feed back . I bought mine from Royal Choppers and the tank, filler cap and badges are excellent . Not so good were the taps but for less than 300 delivered I was very happy .

I looked at the Indian tanks as potentially the easiest way to look original with the  chromed sides & have a clean rust free tank.

Having posted on correct original colours & colour matching different parts of the tinware, I wonder if this is something you should think about. I couldn't tell from pictures online how close those tanks might be to the colour on the rest of my tinware.  If you are not fussed about how close to original the colour you restoration is ( which some have told me depended on the original batch anyway) then I guess it's a case of buy the tank first then take it to an autoshop to colour match for the spraying the rest of the tinware.

I'm open to correction, but I seem to remember that the B40 tank is about half a gallon bigger. I've fitted a later C15 tank to mine (along with lots of other changes) and it seems a bit less bulbous than the B40 one.

What tank was ordered from India?
The bike in the picture is not a B40!
I am sure tanks can be adapted to fit but remember the C15 and B40 have a central one bolt fitting.

The op was asking if anyone had bought an indian tank, first post , it was never suggested that the bike was a B40 and I dont think it would be mistaken for one .

Hi Ducati 2242,

I've looked for a tank from India but couldn't find one for the B40 ( probably didn't look hard enough!).

I am sure most people would recognise that your photo isn't of a B40 ( but a cracking looking bike it is!).

Just didnt want anyone to order something that didnt fit! I have bought several parts from India and been very disappointed - speedo that doesnt work, rear numberplate holder for the B40 which a 5 year old could have welded up better and at least got it square!, ammeter that barely moves to name a few.

Hi

A difference between the B40 and C15 tanks is the badges, B40's have nice big round badges like a Goldie but the C15 has teardrop shaped ones. I don't think it would look right with the wrong ones but its up to the individual.
