Thanks Nick
The bike is still unrestored, has 8K on the clock now. I looked at yours and looks very much original, the front mudguard on these are steal chrome and always have more of a gap at the top front for some reason, never understood why, rather unique to these, you can also get the correct size K70 tyres from Vintage tyres, the alloy tanks are very difficult to find, although small can get 80 - 100 miles ok, so hey I hope you keep it original, great looking machines, different.

Cheers John B

Does anyone have a 69 or 70 model with the toggle switch in the headlamp?  Looking at the wiring diagram it has at least one warning light in the shell too.  I have bought a new Lucas reproduction of the original headlamp but the holes for the lamp(s) and switch need to be drilled.  Can anyone supply a picture showing where they should be?

Ta  Nick.

I think the small alloy tank on the b44 looks WRONG. It does not fit!
My gold tank fits, and looks much better!!

Holes are 1/2" , and set 3 1/4" APART. Three and a quarter.

Thanks for the pic Mick but my 69 model has a 3 position toggle switch and 1 or possibly 2 warning lamps.  It doesn't have an ammeter.

Hello Nick
Just dropped by, regards the headlamp, my 66 is different to yours but Victor Specials were made for off road in USA so would have been kept basic, parts book isnt any help, all I can find are these 2 pictures and can see a light switch top centre and one warning light to the left side, as they dont have oil lights it'll be a high beam light, hope that helps.

The picture below is the best I can find of the headlight arrangement for a 1969 VS. The lighting switch is in the middle of the headlight and the main beam warning light is to its left.

Hi, I have just joined the forum as a friend of mine has a B44 Walker Special. I am trying to research this bike and so far have found out that Alan Walker built one-off race bikes; we have some notes that says the bike won the pre-74 British classic championship and was ridden by Mark Boxley? The bike ran on Methanol but now runs on petrol.
I would like to try and get it registered as there is no V5, any advice and info is appreciated.

Here's a pic I found on the interweb when researching the look of my bike. It says its a '69 bike, but has a different headlamp layout to what you're after I believe....

Hello Don.  Mine has the 3 position lighting switch and just the one warning lamp for hi beam.  Still not sure where they should be though!

It's difficult, 1 or 2 warning lights? and toggle switch, there is only the high beam, no oil pressure switch, be handy to know someone who has one of these bikes, a few have been re-imported, maybe try the owners clubs in USA,http://www.bsaocsc.org/ being an export model they must have some info, Americans are very helpful. Good luck.

Here, with appologies for the quality of the shots, are pictures of my stock 1970 B44VS headlamp.

There is one central positioned 3 position light switch and two indicator warning lights. The LH green indicator is for "high beam" and the RH red indicator is redundant.

The holes are set back from the chrome rim egde by 44mm. The indicator centres are equidistant from the light switch centre by 70mm. (N.B. These dimensions don't take into account the arc of the headlamp shell but are linear measurements)

I hope it helps.
Rob

To add to the possible confusion below is from the Lucas service information showing details of warning lights. It only shows a green for 1968 -1970 but who knows....

It's a minefield.  The 1969 parts book, as I said, lists a red and green warning lamp but the wiring diagram a green only for high beam.  I'm going to do mine like yours robt and mr thumper.
