Another clutch issue on mates bike.
« on: 08 April, 2018, 16:04:00 »
I went to see my mates 500 today. He has fitted a complete new clutch with a 4 screw pressure plate, new plates and a new basket. Some plates are catching on the basket. I read somewhere ages ago about these pattern baskets being filed down with a fine file to cure this issue. Can someone remind me, thanks.

The standard way of overhauling clutch baskets - not just on BSA's.

Hi,
Run a smooth file in the clutch basket and clutch centre, clutch plate tab grooves removing the undulations.

Using a smooth file dress the clutch plate tabs, squaring them off and removing burrs. Some people prefer the surflex plates or dress their existing like a surflex plate

Best wishes...

Thanks lads, just what was in my mind. The bike in question is a Triumph but I did not think anyone would mind, he's a good mate.
