Oil return from rockers
« on: 04 April, 2018, 12:48:37 »
I have a bit of a drip from the oil return banjo from the rockers on my oil tank fitting I have dismantled the union and it has fibre washers each side of the banjo and a small nut, would I be better using dowty washers each side and is there a special nut that should be used as I think the oil will leak along the threads.

Is the rocker feed pipe banjo not held on to the oil tank inlet pipe by the return pipe union nut from the engine? It should be fitted with fibre washers but, if taken apart, should be replaced by new washers. Also, check the two faces on the banjo and on the mounting face on the oil tank are in good condition.

The banjo has a sealing washer each side of it and is  secured by a nut, 1/4 BSP thread. The washers are different internal diameters.

Sometimes it is difficult to find a suitable sized washer to go between tank and banjo. Between banjo and nut you can use a 1/4 BSP dowty seal. This later should prevent oil passing along the threads.

If the sealing washers used are too thick the built in nut on the oil pipe may be prevented from fully tightening, giving another oil leak.

Yes as you say a separate nut holds the banjo it resembles a half nut which leaves plenty of room for the oil pipe nut.
I have just had a look on SRM site they do a nut just for this job.
