What does anyone else out there use to remove this recessed nut !!??

I have now bought 2 x box spanners that fitted the  AF measurement and neither one (Each has 2 ends) fits,  I do not want to resort to hammer and chisel technology and cant see a reference anywhere to service tools to achieve this.

What measurement do you have across the flats of the nut?

Presuming it is a 1969 or 1970 model then the thread is 3/4 x 20 UNF. There was a special spanner part 61 6062.

In the back of my mind something tells me it takes an 11/16 whitworth spanner which is 1 3/16 inch (about 1.2 inches) across flats, rather than an AF spanner.

I normally use a large adjustable wrench angled down at the nut which is not ideal but usually does the trick.

stepped ring spanner , I had to grind down the end for a good fit which would make it weak but they are not that tight , if you hit it with a copper drift it will also come lose

Thanks guys, all most helpful and have tracked down the appropriate service tool in case all else fails.

I'm sure that this wont be my last plea for help in my quest to rebuild a 1969 model Fleetstar
