Buyers Beware !
« on: 11 March, 2018, 11:08:39 »
A warning to anyone contemplating an ebay purchase from Classicmotornos;

I had a bid accepted on a 1948 Girder M21- as per the attached picture; When the courier arrived to pick the bike up he was confronted by picture 2- a dismantled pile of bits.
The main picture on ebay depicts a complete bike and its only when delving a little deeper into the description that it suggests different.
The courier said that there are quite a number of bikes dismantled under tarpaulins in this guys garden and most are out there on ebay so beware if you're in the market for a restoration project. Had the price been say 500 I wouldnt have worried unduly when when your talking 2500 its a different kettle of fish.

I've cancelled the order and am trying to get my money back- its not an insignificant sum !! so fingers crossed !

Hi

They operate under the name of  classicmotornos- they have 4 or 5 very expensive basket cases on ebay. To be fair they do state at the bottom of the item description "the last 4 photos are of the bike now"... BUT... the main picture and the 4 photos on the page are of the bikes before dismantling; you have to search out the pictures of the "as now"... Its a cute piece of marketing because all the indication are that you are bidding on a complete unit- doesnt make it right though !

It's now relisted and they explain that the pictures of the bike fully assembled were taken before it was re-imported to the UK. Presumably, it was dismantled before being shipped over here and remains in that state. Looks ok but you do have to be careful because the Seller has no selling history..

That looks to be an improvement but there are more pictures of the un-dismantled bike than there are as it actually is.... I still think its a bit unethical

If it makes you feel any better I actually GOT CAUGHT out in a similar way, and never got a refund. Entirely my own fault and now its water under the bridge, Fortunaly most of the parts were there and I was able to continue with it.

As said before, it's always best to inspect a bike before parting with any cash. If the Seller doesn't agree to this then leave well alone;)

I asked my son to pick it up for me, and he never queried it. He just did exactly what I had asked. I told him it was most likely in a rough state. Yo tooooooooooo right
