A65 Thunderbolt 1967 Fuel tank

Can anyone tell me why my bike has a tiddly fuel tank? The book says it should be 4 gallon but mine has a 2 gallon? I think. The engine and frame numbers all match and is not as far as I know an import. It looks rather odd being so small though centre bolt and front strap fit perfectly.

A lot of parts could have been changed by previous owners from the factory fitted ones over the past 54 years.
