« on: 12 January, 2018, 15:33:23 »
Hi Guys
I need some advice about the petrol tank that come on my bike ,the frame is a 1949 plunger. Is it the right tank if it isn’t what is the difference.  As I am trying to fit a solo saddle I thought I had better check that the tank is ok size wise and shape etc.
All The best

There are a few different part numbers in mu BSA Parts Llist (for 1949 - 1952 B31's, Gold Stars and others). I attach the information - but find it hard to be sure which tank is used on which bike - rigid, plunger or Gold Star.

These photos are from the parts book issued in 1949 and may assist.

Hi Guys
Thanks for all the info. My tank has the small oblong BSA badge with wing. Underneath at the front there is a link pipe connecting the two sides of the tank. According to Julian’s parts book this link pipe was only fitted on the M series part No 66-8285, my sprung 31 should have tank part No           65-8161.
Does anyone know what the physical difference is between the two tanks. The reason I ask is that the tank needs re chroming and repainting if spend the money on this tank will it look right or should I look for the right tank
