A65 OIF remote oil filter.
« on: 06 January, 2018, 16:12:17 »
I have seen a couple of these fitted to bikes advertised for sale, they are fitted on the frame near the swinging arm. Does anyone know the origin of these as I am fitting me newly rebuilt engine soon.
They have the dimensions of a large cigar tube and clamp on. Thanks.

There are various suppliers of narrow inline oil filter such as K&N below. However, you need to be careful because their filtering capacity is probably small for a road bike since they may have been designed for shorter duration competition use.

I have an in-frame oil filter on my Bonneville. My brother was looking into it on his OIF A65. It can be done but you have to do some work on the in/out points as they're different between the two bikes. Personally, I'm going with an external one on my A65, but thought it was worth mentioning in case you wanted to try and keep it looking factory standard.

Thanks Crofty. I don't mind people seeing the filter, they will know that I care about my new engine. Regards.

Here is a photo of my oil filter as fitted to my 1963 A65 it is attached to an existing bracket just above the center stand sorry for the poor photo but it is awkward to get camera close but I think you will get the general idea.

Hello
He's my take on the remote oil filter for the OIF A65. The filter block is a piece of aluminium I picked up from ebay hand crafted into the shape shown with a steel threaded union from a Pan European to take the HiFlo HF303 filter.
It's simply attached to the rear mudguard frame bracket bolt with an additional 1/4UNF threaded hole in the rear engine plate. The existing return line hose is cut and two banjo fittings used to connect to the filter block. The hardest part was finding a M20 x1.5 tap to tap the hole for the threaded union.

Looks like it came out of BSA factory with the bike, well done.
