wiring problem

I have a 1970 Starfire and back in March I had a problem when fitting indicators the lights flashed in unison with the relay the indicators were wired to the igntion switch, after a lot of help and much head scratching I thought I had come up with a solution I connected the 3 switch wires together and connected the battery terminal to the ignition switch thus the switch would turn the battery on and off problem solved, or so I thought. I have not been out on the bike much as had other problems to deal with but on the couple of times I used the bike all seemed Ok. But on Saturday after returnig from a run I switched the ignition off but the engine kept running everything else turned off lights horn indicators stop lights. Then I remembered the last times I used the bike the egine stopped when I shut the throttle down so on Saturday before I left I slightly increased the tickover. I have now decided to put everything back to where it was before fitting the indicators wiring the indictors independant of the ignition switch.
The problem I have now is everything is wired back to where it was previous but with 1 problem the oil pressure light will not go off with the igntion switched off it stays on all the time the only way I can get it to go off is to disconnect the the battery lead. When I start the bike it goes off as normal but on stopping the engine after a few seconds it comes back on with the ignition switched off, everything else works as it should the only other thing I noticed was when switching the ignition on with the pressure light already lit it does go very slightly duller. I have checked all the wiring for the pressure switch with a multimeter using continuity setting and all OK. What I cannot understand is when altering the wiring previuosly I did not touch any wires for the pressure swtich am at a loss how to solve this problem any help would appreciated thankyou.

The pressure switch will normally earth a cable by making contact when there is no or low pressure. So it looks as though you've connected the warning light to your battery live. It needs to be fed from the switched side of your ignition switch.

I have checked the wiring and the white wire from the pressure light goes to the igntion switch as per the wiring diagram it is wired up as per the wiring diagram from the pressure switch to the light and then to the igntion switch

But if it's lit all the time then it must be getting power from somewhere so I suspect it's not connected to the right terminal on the switch. It should be the same one that feeds the ignition coils.

Have been out in  the garage and things are getting worse. the ignition switch only has 3 connectors a live feed in and the other 2 are live when the ignition is switched on 1 connects to the ignition circuit the other  to the lighting circuit. at the moment the live feed to the swtich is dead but when the ignition is switched on the terminal on the switch is live and it should not be. the ignition wires are not live  but the lighting circuit wires are live and they should not be until the ignition is switched on. it seems as though the power is coming through the switch to the live input wire not the other way round. I think what I am going to have to do here is disconnect all the relevant wires then  trace them back through the harness and the reconnecthem one by one checking each is correct before moving on to the next.

Sounds like a good - well maybe the only - plan.

All sorted now not quite sure how but after playing around with the wiring everything now works as it should.

Well done, wiring is never fun but hefty use of logic and meter usually prevail.
