still not starting

Looking at the number of pages on this subject , 7 or 8 I think, is is worth rebooting as to what you have or don't have, eg sparks and fuel and compression etc.
I have 2 C15s and each is different procedure to start

Barnsey

Okay.  I had a thought.  I filled the carb bowl half full and then turned of the fuel tap.  Kick over and it started on the second kick, but then stopped after a couple of seconds.  I thought that I was onto something, so I tried again and it stubbornly refused to start at all.  I topped up the carb a little, to around 3/4 but it still wouldn't start.

Read what you will into that!

So you have a spark at least.
Looks fuel related.
1 of my c15s needs choke to start , the other , only a gentle tickle.

To check if a spark is really present while kicking unsuccessfully, I use a stroboscopic lamp.
No flash, no spark.

My lazy k2f gives sparks when the plug is outside.
But the stroboscopic lamp shows no spark when the plugs are installed.

I definitely have a spark.  I tried starting with a squirt of Easy Start this morning and the dammed thing kicked back and nearly took my foot off.  How do you avoid that or is it just an occupational hazard?  It still didn't start tho'

Any 4 stroke needs a certain style of starting.
Up to compression and ease over the top , then a forceful kick.
No other style will work
Both of mine will give a little kick , but this is resolved (or greatly reduced)if you follow the above routine
The correct placing of the kick start lever is vital to effect the correct swing at each stage

Okay, I have rebuilt the carb for a second time, with ultrasound cleaning.  No obvious corrosion. Clear jets.
I also bought some fresh fuel and have given the battery a good charge up.  Now I just need the new float to arrive before I try it again.

Barnsey

New float fitted.  The fuel level in the carb is good and the new float doesn't stick like the old one.
Battery charged and new fuel.

I thought I had cracked it this time but it wasn't to be.  Still no go.

Thinking through my options.  Next I reckon I will try tweeking the timing a little.  If that achieves nothing I'll look at the richness on the carb.

Hi,

After trying to get it started using the tickler, what is the plug like?  Is it wet with fuel or completely dry?

Dave.

In these circumstances I usually try a squirt or two of easy start. If it starts and reuns for a few seconds this shows the problem is carburation. If it doesn't then I'd be looking at the ignition system.

Well,  I tried the squirt of Easy Start, but it didn't help.  Maybe because I couldn't squirt and kick at the same time.  I had to squirt and then rush around the bike in order to kick.  Maybe I can get my Missus to squirt while I kick later on.

I removed the idle jet and it is clear and it getting plenty of fuel, but the plug is looking dry. I have only just rebuild the carb for the second time, so both jets were clear on reassembling.

cornishbob

change the spark plug

Barnsey

I have already.  I swapped the Iridium one for a more normal one

I prewarmed the plug with my blow torch.  It coughed once and that was it.
