B40 Brake Shoes

Hi all,
My B40 rebuild is slowly moving forward. The swinging arm is now properly fitted and shimmed and the fork legs checked and cleaned.
Attention has now turned to the wheels (which are newly built) which are not very round or true so some adjustment needed there (anyone know a good wheel builder in Suffolk?)
But the brake shoes have got me baffled.
The front and rear are two completely different sizes ... is this correct?
The front shoes have straight ends both ends ie they do not have a curve to fit around the pivot .. is this correct?
Where do folk get their shoes from?

Hi Stu,
I can't answer about the shoe shape , but I sent my shoes away to a place in Bedford for relining.
Beauty is I can discuss and specify what sort of compound I want on the shoes.
Example , I've just done the bantam shoes after the June jaunt , soft road compound , 16 quid for the pair relined

Sounds like your front brake has floating shoes, the pivot end has a steel pad and the linings are asymetric on the shoes. They must be fitted the right way around, if reversed the stopping power will be severely reduced.

The front brake is 7 inch and the rear 6 inch diameter. The rear is the same as the C15.

The service sheet below explains and the photo shows the same type of floating shoes on an A10 7 inch full width iron hub rear brake.
