I have just got my second teenage dream
« on: 25 June, 2024, 17:02:33 »
Hi again everyone I have been absent for quite a while, I went over to the dark side with a 1970 Triumph TR6R but I have seen the light and part exchanged it for a 1957/8 DBD34 in Clubman's trim (I know my back will never forgive me) apparently the bike spent it's first 10 years of life on the track racing if stories are to be believed, anyway it is what it is and I have lusted after one of these from my youth I am now 71 so got there in the end. The bike is off to Phil Pearson next week for an electric start as my poor old bones are not really up for the kind of punishment I know these can deliver when kicking them anyway will update as things progress

If it has been used for racing it won't be in the best state of tune for bimbling down to the local cafe.   Most likely a Close Ratio set of cogs has been installed, so first gear will easily exceed a 30 mph speed limit, before you even open the throttle..   Also a racing cam, and the highest Compression Ratio Piston, for the fuel that was available.

Seems an absolute shame to hack it about by fitting an electric starter...  I hope you don't..

This bike is now 67 years old and if true that first 10 years was a track bike it will have gone through umpteen engines and boxes during that period of it's life it has been confirmed by the DVLA it was not registered for road use until 1968 giving it an F registration which I am in the process of getting an age related plate for. As I find out more about what it has and has not I will update the forum with progress
