Bit of a left field question this but does anyone happen to know, or where I can find out, the cost of a 12 months road tax for a bike in 1962?  I'm adding a replica disc to my BSA 650 restoration project and want to fill in the details on it but can't find the info anywhere on the 'net.  Although I was around in 1962 I certainly wasn't buying tax discs back then .  I would have been 6 years old, since you ask!!!!

Have you seen this? Dont know how accurate it is.

No I missed that somehow.  Thanks, I can now fill out the disc and add it to the bike.

Thanks Julian

That helped me out to as I was just guessing with all my bikes........ Now I have more of a rough Idea of what they should be more like :)

Thanks to Julian i found out that the tax for an over 250cc bike in 1962 was £4-10s-0d.  Doesn't sound much but in todays' money that's about £120. Not a lot different to current rates.

 :) :) :)

1962 I got about £7.00 per week. But I think then you could tax for 3 or 4 months at a time. So I could afford it most of the time. I seem to recall that I taxed for 3 months then missed a month then repeated. I must have been seriously younger. I think I had a 350 Ariel

You could also go the classic  note instead of a tax disc, mine say tax in post, with post crossed out and computer written underneath.

 :) I like that idea!
