C25 Remote engine oil filter

Wishing to protect the rebuilt engine of my 1967 C25, I've bought a remote oil filter kit, this seems to be of the Norton Commando type with 3/8" hose spigots on the filter head.

Whilst mounting the bracket and filter onto the rear engine mounting stud is straightforward, I'm struggling to work out suitable hose routings.  One concern is that it looks like I will have to shorten the inlet pipe of the engine oil manifold 40-1035 to allow the hose to pass between the rear of the crankcase and the filter mounting bracket on its way up to the oil tank.  The other concern is that as well as having to force the supplied 5/16" return line hose onto the 3/8" hose spigots, the orientation of the filter head means that I have to bend the hose well beyond its intended minimum bend radius to get it onto both hose spigots.

I might well have missed the obvious.  Does anyone have any photos showing how they have installed such a kit or any advice?  Thanks in advance for any help.

I have just bought a similar kit. How did you sort the hose routing I am having the same problems.

I had these on a couple of 500 Triumph Daytonas

I made a T-shaped bracket and then made it U-shaped.
The ends of the u were drilled out to use extended footrest bolts
The filter went under the gearbox with the T shape inverted and two holes drilled to mount the head to it which raised the head higher up than the frame rails, as close to the gearbox underside as possible.
That way the feed in and out pipes exit on the same side as the oil pipes with minimal diversion of the pipes.
If the BSA has the same space it might work really well.  Obviously if a trials bike with bash plate it will not work.
If you are interested I will make a sketch.
On my 'goldie' I have fitted the same filter into my tool box and used copper-nickel pipes to route them up under the mudguard away from the tyre but I do like the extra filtration.

Hi Andy,
I have a B44 which appears to be a very similar setup to the C25.
I bought a kit from Paul Goff and although it was a pain to fit, I finally succeeded and it works fine.
The unit I have fitted also mounts off the rear engine bolt (after you've bought a longer stud) and the spigots point towards the oil connection manifold.
I messed about for ages until I decided to start with a blank canvas and removed both oil pipes.
Originally, the oil pipes on my machine were routed from the oil tank down between the plates of the rear engine bracket.
I could route them back that way but it was very tight and it made the connection onto the new filter virtually impossible.
I ended up routing the pipes down the gearbox side of the engine bracket.
As for connecting the pipes, I had to slightly bend the return spigot on the engine manifold down to get both connections on the new filter and the manifold to align better. Otherwise, there were too many kinks in the pipe.
As for the pipe supplied with the kit, I warmed it up with a hairdryer to soften it a bit before fitting.
I also fitted Dowty washers on the oil tank banjo connection, it doesn't leak now.
I didn't have to cut anything to fit the filter but there was a lot of cursing and fortunately no blood spilt.
Life would have been much easier with an hydraulic bike lifting bench as the garage floor was damned hard.
I hope the description of my struggle is helpful, don't be put off the end result is well worth it.

Below a commando type fitted to my Starfire way back in 2000.

Beware of having too tight a radius in the pipes, which will obstruct the flow.

No longer have the bike. Using a Morgo on my A10 which being more compact was easier to mount.

I could certainly do with some photos. I also have the Paul Goff kit and so far I have the engine mount bolt (or is it a stud I am never sure) out but I can't get anything to fit. I have tried one way of mounting but the filter fouls the clutch cable and the filter head prevents the carb from fitting.

My head is getting very sore from scratching it and my knees are killing me 😩.

The filter and bracket on the B44 mounts under the bike between the gearbox and rear wheel.
I'll attempt to attach a couple of photos.

Those are very helpful photos. I was trying to mount the filter above the gearbox I had thought of fitting it in the position you have it but I was worried about the hose routing and access.

Any more photos you have would be great.

PS everything is so clean under there 😮 I have decided I will get get the degreaser and a brush out and get everything spotless before I do anything.

I took the exhaust pipe and the chain guard off then the oil pipes off and it suddenly made sense. I have bought a metre of oil pipe and will renew both sides

Got the pipework and filter fitted. I had to buy 2 90° brass elbows cost £7 they allowed me to fit the pipes with no excessive bending. Hopefully the photos show what I did

Nope I don't even understand those photos let's try again. I fitted one elbow to inlet stub on filter with a short length of hose and then carefully bent the pipe from the engine out slightly to get a good run. Then I fitted an elbow to the engine feed pipe again with a short length of hose and then fitted hose to tank. I need to fit some jubilee clips on each end of the elbows and I think I am done.

Are sure that you don't need to fit jubilee clips to the elbow joints. That short pipe coming off the filter looks a bit strained on the elbow.

Yes I am going to fit clips but I ran out of the right size.
