Fuel Tanks (again)

Hi. I'm just in the process of "doing" a petrol tank and I've run out of cleanser and sealant.

Whats new on the market and what are you gents currently using. I'd much rather use something proven by you than take a chance on getting it right.

That is extremely interesting and in truth looks a good way to go. I've already de-rusted it and having run out of "Splosh" looking for something to continue the process.I shall keep you up to date. Actually one of their recommended "fixers" is only a few miles from me, so I might do a bit of interrogation.

Whilst on this subject. This an Indian tank that I bought about 18months back. It has only had two lots of fuel put in it and the amount of rust and other cra- that came out beggars belief.

I admit that when I bought it I was very pleased with it and sang its praises. However now? buyer beware.

I have visited the localish guy spoken of recently and he swears by this product. He is a professional fuel tank reliner. So I left my tank with him to have the job done properly.??

I have a second tank that looks as if it came out of the ark which I shall have a go at myself later.

The job is going to come out at about £150. A lot of money but should be worth it.

Follow up to petrol tank woes.

Now have mine back from having it internally stripped and resealed.

Checked it out as best I could and it appears to be sound. The workmanship is very good and the materials used have left a fairly high gloss finish: looks hard. Of course only time and use will tell. As I said expensive. Inc VAT £190.

I have another seriously ancient tank that I shall have a go at myself prob in the new year. Will report eventually "subject to memory"

I keep hearing of people using a product called POR15 as a tank sealant.
It's actually meant for the painting of vehicle chassis and components, but it's supposed to be an excellent tank sealant too.
Expensive by paint standards but cheap compared to  £190 I'd think.

I can assure you that right now anything is cheap compared with £190.

I think rather than pay  £190 to have an existing tank sealed, I'd buy one of the Indian offerings and then seal it on arrival with a proven quality tank sealant.
They've been known to have porous seam welds which will soon have your nice new paintwork bubbling up, but a good tank sealant should prevent that.
Not really good engineering I admit.
But how much for a quality British made new tank ?

The one I've just had done is a "new" Indian tank. Its only had two lots of petrol in it and the inside basically dissolved. then went solid,

So heres hoping. Of course it doesn't help that as far as I can tell they are the only source.

I have refinished a battered glass tank.
I tested it with fuel in. No leaks yet, but if it starts to leak
I will try my epoxy clear two pack paint, which should do the job, for £10.

May seem a daft question. Don't remember having problems in the 60's. Is it the modern green fuel we use causing all this grief.
