I was asked what are the ground rules and requirements for a successful BSAOC Rally and Open Day (Open Day is when all bikes and enthusiasts are welcome to visit for FREE).
Well, it's hard to say, but here's a shot at a formula - please add your own pointers:
1. Local volunteers to recce potential sites - we've had some great responses on this (apologies for delays getting back to you but a busy time enhanced by bad Covid...)
2. Local volunteers to see what's on offer and what needs to be added
3. Volunteers to recommend which of their researched venues gets the green light
4. Volunteers to just get on with it, ask for help - it'll be offered
5. make it up as you go along - every time is different and offers new learning and experience
6. communicate like it's going out of fashion
7. don't feel bad if you find 2024 is all booked, more time to plan for 2025
8. FUN & Happy People are the rules
Camping & Caravan Club might have some venues suitable? How many of us are also members there?
Just for fun, here's the result we all want (cut & paste):

Matlock Rugby Club, Cromford, Derbyshire. Adjacent Cromford Mills and Cromford Canal Wharf.
And no neighbours to annoy!
Cheapish 24/7 petrol 3/4 of a mile on A6.
Sadly my failing health situation precludes little further help but obviously what I can do I will do.

Bryan, That's a big help, many thanks. You just look after yourself & organise a lift for the do. Looks very promising.

Post code for anyone looking for location.  DE4 3RQ Let us know what you think and if you can get involved, if reasonably local.

Thanks John, yes it does look good. We now have a number of possible alternative sites, all ready for further investigation.
I cannot do it, I am not local so have no local knowledge, additonally there is the undeniable fact that I am not getting any younger.
We must hand over to younger, local members and adapt to the modern ways the "system" works best.
Our help will be to be available to advise, as and when the new organisers want and ask for it.

Bill.
The more you hang about the less chance you will get in booking for next year, these places do get booked up pretty quick. I was looking at the place where the scooter boys use but they are younger than us and used to roughing it, close to Rugby I believe.
