A10 (1961) fuel pipe size

Looking at changing the fuel taps on my A10 (1961) from the current push-pull type to rotating type, but they all seem to be for 1/4 pipes. Current pipes are 1/8". Can I just change the pipes for the larger diameter, or will this open up a world of new pain?!

I would have thought 1/4" is standard for most old British bikes?
