Hi all,
I've purchased a steel Starfire tank to replay the fibreglass one that was fitted to the Barracuda. I have purchased all of the items required to fix the tank to the frame but in looking at the attached picture of the parts list, how is the tank fixed? In what order is the fixings assembled? The nut, washer, mounting rubber and small washer (parts numbered on the attached 20, 21, 22 and 23) can't fit into the beading holder (part number 24) can it? And where does the 'O' ring and and mounting ring fit (parts numbered 45 and 46) fit into this arrangement?

Any advice will be gratefully received,
Kevin

45 & 46 go under the lip of 24 to protect the paint on the petrol tank.

I can only assume your bolt 44 is too short or rubber 22 is too long. How much would you need to trim off of it so that you can get the top nut started?

I've purchased a 90mm long 8mm coach bolt in lieu of part 44 (which no one seems to have in stock for some considerable time); I'll adapt the head to fit the slot in the frame.

So can I assume, from the top of the tank, we have tank grommet 19 fitted into beading holder 24. Then mounting ring 46 and "O" ring 45 (as you mention above). Do we then have (again working down) nut 20, washer 21, mounting rubber 22, spacer 26 and bolt 44? So where does washer 23 fit?

It's easier to go in the order you fit them.

Bolt 44 goes in the slot on the frame.

Tube 26 goes over bolt 44

Put the tank on (remember the two horseshoe shaped  rubbers one at front, one at the back)

Put 45 & 46 on to beading holder 24 and put it into the hole in the tank, bolt 44 should poke up through the hole so that you can

drop washer 23 over bolt 44.

Then rubber 22

Then washer 21 and nut 20.

Tighten nut 20 and cover it with 19.

If you can't get nut 20 on, then it seems that either bolt 44 is too short or the rubber 22 is too long.

Not wishing to add any confusion, but there is also a bracket that needs to be fitted underneath the tank. A 6 inch or so flat piece that connects to the two sides of the tank.

How was the fibreglass tank held on? I thought the fixings were the same.

Thanks Beesy - this is really helpful. I hadn't thought that the mounting rubber, etc. would go inside the beading holder.

I had not spotted the strap assembly (bracket) that fits underneath; there was nothing like that for the Barracuda tank. I will need to wait until I get the tank back from being painted and lined before I can look at how that fits (I assume that this goes under the frame tube?). However, in searching for this part online I find that it is not available. I guess that it is just a flat bar with a hole at each end (?)

Thanks again

This is the strap on my B44.

Yes. Just a flat bar that goes underneath the frame tube. Apparently the tank can split if it's left off.

It's held on with a bolt, spring washer and flat washer on each side. Be mindful of the length of the bolts. You don't want to put a hole in the tank!
