*****Urgent - Scammers Alert again *****
« on: 02 May, 2023, 15:26:04 »
Hi folks,
I just had an email from a member who has a machine for sale in the May edition and he had been contacted by someone impersonating me saying we have space in the next edition and would he like to 're-advertise for half price'. Fortunately, he didn't get conned but be warned the stinking lowlife are out there again!!!
As we don't charge members for advertising, if you are advertising in The Star and are contacted asking for money please feel free to use what ever expletives you wish in turning down the offer!
I have contacted the other members who are advertising in the showroom and warned them just in case.

Possibly worth getting their details of whichever payment method they were planning to use - ie PayPal, bank transfer etc.
Publishing the email address linked to the PayPal account might at least put them to the inconvenience of having to get another email address and opening another PayPal account.

It's not just old Brit bikes. There are a couple of Facebook groups for Yamaha's early 80s XJ650. Some new members only ever make one post, one with a bike for sale. Take a look on their personal page and there is no evidence of them ever having had a bike. The admins for one of these Facebook groups didn't care, so I left. The other one at least tries to keep them out.

A variation is when a Facebook group member has a problem; by amazing coincidence somebody who has just joined the group has exactly the spares they need.
