Further Scam
« on: 13 May, 2023, 17:36:10 »
 :) :) :) :)

If you receive a new bank card out of the blue earlier than expected-----do NOT ACTIVATE IT---It could well be a scam. Check with your bank. If you activate it, it will immediately empty your account to an untraceable No. Same is true of any card you receive that doesnt look right.

I'm struggling to see how the scam works? Nowadays, you don't need to activate a card - it's starts working the first time you use it assuming its start and end dates are valid. I can't see how trying to make the first payment using the bogus card can possibly result in additional payment demands being generated and them ending up going to an account other than that associated with the card payment machine?

I got slightly suspicious when one of my new cards arrived 3 months before the old one ran out and I ended up going into the bank to check it was legit. As said, I can't think of anyway a bogus card can be used to put your back account in direct danger. From what I have read, people have been sent bogus cards but the scam involved the perpetrator visiting and persuading the owner to part with his old card on the pretext that this was needed to be done to allow them to sort out why the new (bogus) card was not working.

Outside my paygrade. I get a warningn I listen. If it turns out to be a hoax. No harm done. If its for real Ahhhhh different story. What may not have been possible once could well now have been made possible. So. Keep it simple----keep it safe.
