I just looked at the thread on the 'Singles' page in BSA Workshop and thought I would share my current position re the new model.

As many will know from reading The Star, I was privileged to have a ride on the new Gold Star at the Brooklands Motorcycle Show last summer. I was so impressed, I decided I would buy one when they became available, subject to a test ride on the King's highway.

A couple of weeks ago (Friday 13th would you believe) I did just that using the demonstrator at Deardens Motorcycles and rode main roads, dual carriageways plus country roads in the New Forest.

The upshot was it did everything I expected of it and more. The acceleration and torque was far better than I imagined and it handled really well, brakes were more than adequate and the riding position very comfortable (for me). Also, it sounded a lot more like a DBD34 than the one at Brooklands, a cracking bark from the silencer.

So, I've ordered one and it should be here by early April. Just in time for the 2023 season!

I can put it on the HTOC For Sale site for you.
It may be worth asking at Webbs in Peterborough - I can do that as well. I was in there yesterday & they are very positive about everything.

EDDIE SIMPSON

in my view the new bsa fills a small gap in the new bike market but is it a gold star?
more like a b33 i think.

MGI

"More like a B33" not really, currently, but an extremely valid point in my view - I confidently predict that once the initial sales glut has been satisfied, upgrades on the next versions will be installed, then perhaps the Gold Star soubriquet will be justified. I anticipate twin front discs, tuning mods to the engine (it has already been claimed that there is potential for increased performance) and various other improvements all to be welcomed!

2LZ

I can't wait till the new Gold Star is available in the U.S. I'll be in line for one. Very exciting. I hope they sell the heck out of these.

Spaceman

A very large single (650 cc rather than 350/500 cc) will not be everyone's cup of tea (apologies for an English saying) and definitely needs to be given a comprehensive test ride before deciding to buy. I definitely have a love-hate relation with my large Rotax engined single - love it on the open road and hate it in town ::)

Well, they said it would be available for early April!! Surprise, Surprise - I got an email from the dealer on Wednesday saying it was in stock and waiting. Well done Deardens!
So, deposit paid and ready to collect on 2nd March (so it has a '23 plate on it). In time to get a full season on it.
It's the Dawn Silver version and really looks the part.
They have a Black one and two Red ones in stock for sale so if you want one for the spring yourself, they are there waiting for you.

Chris
PS I recently realised, I'm approaching 70 yrs old this year and this is the first Brand New motorcycle i have ever bought.

A really exciting time!
I bet you love it. Please post photos and a review when you get it.

Spaceman

I've bought 4 x brand new motorbikes over my lifetime with the first one being a dreadful Triumph twin from the Meriden Cooperative and the last one in 2007 from Willshers just outside Southampton that I'm currently overhauling. However, it's always exciting to pick up a new motorcycle although restraining your enthusiasm during the running in period is always a bit of a challenge! I'm not convinced by the new BSA Goldstar but I'm looking forward to seeing one next Wednesday at a local dealer and I am fully prepared to be persuaded to fall in love with it and end up buying one :)

Youngster!
I've never bought a new bike, gulp! My D14/4S was 1 year old & Laurie, the Sprint GT was over 4 years old, evreything else was older.
Congratulations on your purchase - I think my choice would be the green.

Well, I have collected it today and rode it home from Hythe to Hayling in wonderful sunshine. I took a detour via Winchester, 65 miles in all.
With hand on heart I can say is it's absolutely brilliant!
It handles like a dream and goes like a Rocket. The suspension is excellent making riding bumpy roads a pleasure and giving you that extra bit of confidence in the process.
It's surprisingly smooth for a big single with vibes that make you realise you're on a proper motorcycle, just like our classics do.
Big smiles all round!
Chris

that's great news to get real life experience of this long awaited 'new' BSA. You must keep us updated on how it goes in the longer term, servicing etc.

Grumps

Saw one at a dealer. Good write up in the press. Tempting, as is the new Enfield Meteor tourer.

JOHNSTONE

I collected mine today and I agree with the Editor. Brilliant. Lots of big smiles.   :D :D :D
