Hi this is a general question.

What is the difference between Schrader valves and Presta valves. My main interest is in the diameter of the stem.

Arn't the Presta ones the type on bicycles?  Particularly racing types.

I know you've already decided but the short answer is, Schrader need a bigger hole. You can use Presta in a Schrader-size hole as plastic spacers often come with the tube. The other way round doesn't work.

For some reason Prestas, in some sizes, are becoming harder to get hold of.
