Rear lamp 1947 B33 Rigid
« on: 10 May, 2022, 13:05:13 »
How-do guys, I've been reading with interest some posts about this rear lamp topic on the forum and would welcome a bit more advice and guidance if that's okay. It seems the O.E. fitment for the 1947 B33 rigid was the round Lucas type MT211, which by all accounts gave out a very inadequate light. So over the years it was customary, even recommended to fit later versions which gave a much improved light and probably also complied with regulations/stop lights etc. Mine has a WIPAC 143b type, originally fitted to the Bantams of a slightly later period which not only provides adequate lighting and a stop light, but also (in my view) looks good and in keeping. I'm no slave to the car park critics, especially if something works well. On the other hand, I would baulk at something that might be considered just wrong. Your thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

My 1948 rigid B32 has the later Lucas 525 type that a previous owner has fitted. It would originally have had a round light like the Lucas 477. Although not original I'm happy with the later lamp for it's better light output.

In my view the only thing that should be 'considered wrong' is not to do what you want with your bike for fear of others opinions.

Lucas introduced a more "modern" rear light in 1952, possibly due to impending change in legislation.

This type 529 was designed to replace the earlier lights and used the same mounting holes.

You can still buy them.
