Sealed wheel bearings ?
« on: 22 August, 2017, 13:25:04 »
I am rebuilding my wheels including the bearings. Most bearings on the market are now sealed !! I am used to adding loads of new grease when I change these, do we still have to apply liberal amounts and do we still fit the dust covers and grease retainers if we use sealed units. Thanks.

Sealed bearings don't require lubrication. You should not have to use the original seals but I think I ould just to add an extra level of protection. If you can't get your head round not lubing them then the inner seals are easily popped off.

Sealed bearing have the added advantages, as well as not having to grease, of being clean and avoiding any chance of grease on brakes and keeping any brake dust grit etc from getting in the bearings. Have used them for years in my A10, front and rear wheels, and find they last for years and years and years.
