1939 B21
« on: 22 August, 2024, 10:15:49 »
Has anyone got a 1939 B21 with a side stand fitted? (not the stand that attaches to the rear mudguard) I don't think the bike left the factory with a side stand fitted or offered as an optional extra. But has anyone managed to fit a side stand since? if yes where did you attach it to and where did you obtain it from or was it a home made one. Thanks

I thought I'd seen one somewhere. Its a bit tricky and has to be quite far back, so don't know how stable it'll be, but it's possible. You might need to braze/weld the clamp to the frame to stop it turning and dropping the bike on the floor.

There was a side stand offered as an option for the M20/1 at that time. I managed to borrow an original and got one cast and made up the mounting myself. It's not the most stable idea as it doesn't lean the bike enough but works as a temporary stand for me to open a gate or similar as long as the ground is level or slopes a bit to the left. Ron

Hi Greenfield: do you know where the B21 side stand on your photo came from? was it off another bike? thanks m8 Paul H.

I took the photo from the web.
It's certainly possible to fit one, but it's a bit awkward. There're plenty of after market ones available. You need to know the diameter of the frame tube that it'll clamp onto and the length needed to allow the bike to lean a few degrees. The brake anchor strap is a bit in the way. If the stand angles forward during use it will help prevent the bike rotating around the stand.
If you have a go, let us know how you get on.

Greenfield: snag is, I've tried fitting one on the left side but the brake anchor is in the way and seems is nowhere to locate one, have tried a side stand on right side, but no luck, even looked under the bike but is no room (the side stand I tried was one of those generic bolt on stands) arh well....

just browing idly round the forum when i came across this post.

one of my other passtimes (yes i know you will think 'what a saddo') is scrolling through ebay listings when theres nothing else to do.

well... after looking at it and reading it and looking at the pretty pictures something went 'ping' in my head (i'm ok.i stuck a plaster on it ).

just take a look at this item on fleabay... 365046682015.

similar? OR very similar? ok theres no hole but you must have a black and decker drill and a few drills lying around that aren't blunt yet

*** so the diclaimer is... i know nothing !! i didn't get up this morning and its the end of the month and the drugs have stopped working. ***

worth a look though. you never know

Have a look at Andy Tiernan's bikes. There are photos of a 1939 B21 deluxe with sidestand.
