Half width front hub queerie
« on: 18 November, 2021, 15:37:36 »
Hi gents yet another question from an amateur with a zest for e bay! Just purcuased a 8inch half width hub which i believe is for, amongst others, an a65. As i am at present restoring a 67 hornet i thought i might gather around me spares for wheels etc. Anyway its in near perfect nick but i noticed the brake  shoe width is narrower than my original. So did Bsa alter this detail and secondly can use this item with narrower shoes? I cant find any part numbers to help so any help please. Thanks Dave

A10 8" half width drum has no fins and is narrower than the A65 which is finned.

The  8 inch half width hub had shoes 1 3/8 inch wide up to 1965 season then for 1966 season on width increased to 1 5/8 inch. Both the wide and the narrower hubs were finned for the A65.

Thanx Julian that explains a lot. Am i right in thinkig then as mine is the finned variety i can fit direct, without mods, to my existing 67 rolling chassis. All other dimensions appear as original. Many thanks. Dave

I think it will probably fit its the same spindle, some years back I did a reverse fit and put a 1966 wide hub wheel in a 1954 A7, that fitted fine.
