Brake relining and machining to fit
« on: 10 November, 2021, 11:11:09 »
Hi All,

I have had a quick look at previous posts re brake lining so now I want to get a brake done.  So who is the best to get this done by?  It is a Grimeca 4LS and ideally I would like the AM4 linings currently fitted replaced with something better for the road and to have the linings machined to best fit the drum.  Local brake specialist or known classic bike brake specialist?

Dave.

I'm not sure about the machining to fit, but I have used Villiers Services to re line a few pairs of shoes. Great price and a great service.

They may be able to offer a machining service or point you in the right direction

Hi Beesy,

Thanks for the reply.  This service used to be provided by Ferodo in Derbyshire but now a couple of offer something similar.  I will have to look a bit harder on line.

Hi,

Does anyone know if Alan Campbell is still doing brake linings?  He was strongly associated with Ferodo in Chapel en le Frith.

Dave.

Hi Dave, i have used Kestral Transmissions in the past and had good service, it might be worth having a word with them. They are on Holyrood Drive, Skippingdale. Tel number 01724 855711.

I've always used Custom Brakes and Hydraulics, and been happy with their work.

Hi Paul,

That is sometimes the case when a son follows a father in the same business.  I am tossing up between Classic Brake Services (Ian Campbell) or Custom Brakes of Sheffield as recommended by Ian C.
Sheffield is a bit closer but I will read the online reviews to help me to decide.

Dave.

Like Dean, I have used Leicester Wheel and Brake Services. I spoke to him recently and he charges about £110 per wheel.
