Sent my reprofiled piston off about 10 days ago to T&L Engineers(they already had the barrel on the shelf awaiting piston). Just got the news that rebore is complete, now just needs honing and painting and maybe soon we can nail the engine back together. So who's a happy boy then!!!!!

Very good!  You must let me know how it performs once it's running. Whatever I try, mine seems to be very lack luster and doesn't go beyond 90 km/h.

Sure will although I guess that it will be a long time yet. Once the engine is back together its going to my son (Its his actually) to complete.
No longer my problem Good.

Sloper barrel is now rebored to fit reprofiled piston, blasted and painted. Looks very good. Now have all the engine parts ready for assembly. Mag is "done", dynamo is still awaiting surgery and the gearbox requires a new bush..Just got a new kick start return spring ???hopefully..

Still VERY much a job in progress but it can now be fairly classed as a 'job in hand'.

We have now arrived at the point, to all intents,of a completely (almost) reassembled engine.

Pics should give an idea of where we are with it.

The third pic is what shows as a "tell tale" for the oil pressure. None of my books are very specific about what this is, what the component pars are or how it works. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi Mike I've not seen a telltail that looks like the one in your picture doesn't mean it's wrong but if you look on eBay under BSA sloper there's a timing cover for sale with a tell tail fitted it will give you a better idea what mine looks like ,basically when is oil pressure is present the bit that looks a little bit like a flying saucer on the outside of the nut moves outwards  telling you that oil is there hope this helps Mark

Below from 1930 catalogue showing the tell tale and describing the lubrication system.

The 1931 catalogue shows some Slopers fitted with tell tale and others without tell tale but with an oil pressure gauge in the tank top instrument panel instead.

Yours looks like no tell tale to me.

Hi Mike,
Here's a photo of the dissembled tell-tale from my S29 Sloper.
Cheers,

Thanks to all for your input. I now think that I may be someawy to understanding this. Mine looks like no tell tale. So I guess that a pressure guage job.

Hi Julian I tried unsuccessfully to print those pics you posted. May I crave your indulgence and ask you to email them to me.

phahmah@outlook.com    Thanking you in advance.

What year is your Sloper? If is an 1933 to 1935 model it may have been fitted with an oil pressure gauge in the tank panel. Oil pressure on most 1930's BSA's was quite low, about 9 psi when cold and 6 psi when hot. My 1929 Sloper has a tell tale as already discussed.

Thanks for that. I am now beginning to see whats whats here.

Thats it, all sorted but but not yet fitted. Mine is definitely the type that takes the oil pressure guage.

So big thanks to all who offerred assistance and advice. and maybe it will be running within the next ten years or so.
