Good afternoon,

If anyone is looking for Craven pannier sets etc.  Have look on Ebay.  There are some complete sets as well individual items at reasonable prices.
Craven rack topbox and panniers Motorcycle luggage 373629905954  with a starting bid of £200.

Get them, fit them and get travelling.

I couldn't agree more. I've been using Craven Concorde panniers on my not-a-BSA for about a dozen years and they are great for camping or just when running Saturday errands. I'm a great fan of hard luggage but those panniers are a bit new for my 50s BSA; the name "Concorde" being a bit of a clue...

So what I'd like to do is put some 1953 type hard luggage on my 1953 plunger frame M33, but what were they like? What were they made of? I know about the Rodark panniers (though don't know when they were first made) but that's it.

Hi Rog1

Early Craven Silver Arrows would probably suit your bike.  They are made of some kind of compressed material with some wood for reinforcement.

Available new from Craven too, though now in fibreglass.

Cheers!

Hi Rog,

They look quite good and wouldn't look too modern on your M33.  Original ones would be better though but any about will probably need some repairs.

Hi,

They are Rodark panniers based on a Triumph rear mudguard.  Look good on almost any classic.  Craven are now making them in fibre glass.
